RIP Dr. Henry Oster author of The Kindness of the Hangman with co-author Dexter Ford--now re-released by Thread Books in 2023 as The Stable Boy of Auschwitz.
Dear beloved Henry Oster,
your life and your journey has meant the world to so many in your fight for a just world in the future!
May we never forget and because of your memoir we shan't.
"Henry hid his mother from the SS in
an attic in the Lodz, Poland Ghetto. He escaped a firing squad in
Auschwitz. Endured a death march through the Polish winter. Formed a
life-long friendship in the nightmare barracks of the Buchenwald
concentration camp. Saw his friends killed by a British fighter-bomber.
And came within hours of starving to death before his liberation by
General Patton's 3rd Army."
"Good night, sweet prince,
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!"
This is a discussion of a woman, an ordinary woman who participates in the everyday and commonplace acts of life. As she re-views (reminiscences) about her present, past, and future. This collaboration of, and interdependence between the visual and the verbal, forms an autoethnography of a woman’s life and explores a still developing, still evolving selfhood.
